Current primary-source reference material
Each entry states its narrow use and its limit. A reference does not diagnose equipment, approve work or decide a facility's compliance.

Terminology for identifying the request
- Dock leveler versus portable dockboard or plate: a leveler is installed at a dock position; a portable board or plate bridges a gap and has its own capacity and securing considerations.
- Sectional versus coiling door: a sectional door travels in hinged sections along tracks; a rolling door coils its curtain around a barrel.
- Dock restraint versus trailer landing gear: a restraint is dock equipment intended to address vehicle movement; landing gear supports a detached trailer and is not the restraint.
- Fire-rating identification: appearance alone does not establish a rating. Existing labels, records, the authority and a qualified provider establish the assembly information.
These distinctions help a caller describe equipment. They are not repair instructions or a remote condition assessment.
Municipal permit orientation
Start with the complete facility address, identify the parcel municipality, describe the proposed scope and ask which code authority administers it. Pennsylvania has local enforcement arrangements as well as Department of Labor & Industry responsibilities. The issuing authority decides whether a permit applies and confirms current fees.
The homepage contains the detailed Allentown fee examples and permit discussion. Those examples are government-fee arithmetic, not repair pricing, and should not be applied to another municipality.
How this reference list is maintained
A reference or research asset is listed here only after it is complete. publish an asset only after its source set, methodology, limitations, data period and actual revision date are complete. Recheck consequential references, preserve checked dates, correct stale statements and do not imply that a source establishes provider capability or site-specific compliance.
